HAUCHMAN // WIIK

Rick Hauchman – guitar, mandolin, vocals Magnus Wiik – banjo, mandolin, fiddle, vocals

When Rick Hauchman left Broke Mountain and his life as a musician to follow love to Copenhagen, it didn’t take him long to seek out fellow bluegrasser Magnus Wiik up in Norway. It took them about two minutes to figure out that they’d be collaborating a lot over the coming years! With guitars, banjo, mandolin, fiddle and song the duo gathers inspiration from both the Monroe and Stanley Brothers as well as Skaggs and Rice with a splash of the creative madness fronted by Chessboxer to name a few. After having played with each other’s groups; Rick’s Lowlife Brotherhood in Denmark and Magnus’ Open String Department in Norway they figured it was time to dig into the duo format. Having performed and done workshops in both Norway and Denmark, they are both committed to make the duo their priority in 2024!

The music is rooted in bluegrass, at the same time hard driving as well as playful. The duo picks songs from both their extensive back catalogues of songs and instrumentals as well as traditional material both known and obscure. The duo serves up a solid musical performance through and through, delivered with passion, humor and warmth.

Rick Hauchman hails from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where he played with bands such as Big Fat Gap and Broke Mountain. He’s worked with many big names in bluegrass, and made his living as a musician in Nashville for several years. Today he’s active with Lowlife Brotherhoos, Space Dudes and Buds in Copenhagen, and tours regularly both sides of the Atlantic.

Magnus Wiik is an award-winning multi-instrumentalist with more than twenty critically acclaimed releases as a band leader. He has toured the world and worked with some of the biggest names in bluegrass, jazz and Irish folk music. In 2020 he released his first two solo albums where he plays 11 instruments and sings to universal critical acclaim.
